In Box Review:

Lindberg Messerschmitt Me-262

This is a quick review of the 1/48 Scale Lindberg Me-262 kit #70551.  As far as I can tell this kit goes as far back as the late 1960's, early 1970's, and has been around a long time.  It is a model kit from a bygone era.

If you are buying this kit to make a serious and realistic model, then you will not be happy.  If like myself, you have bought this kit because it is cheap and you are looking for a quick build to improve your airbrushing, then you can't go wrong.  

The re-boxing I have is dated 2006, but make no mistake the model inside the box is not very modern.  First off there are a lot of things that move and open, such as both sides of the gun bay, both forward engine cowlings, flaps, rudder, gear and gear bay doors.  So you can see at the start its pretty much a toy kit.  

The kit comes in white plastic with 4 small parts tree's, and 1 in clear plastic for canopy.  There is 1 decal sheet with a couple of marking options. and a small instructions sheet.

First off, the parts, they do not have a lot of flash or other problems, but they do not have as much detail as modern kits.  Lots of rivit's but very little on the panel lines.  They go together OK but require a lot of filling and sanding in places.  Also as you can see there are not a lot of parts.

Second, the canopy fit is OK but not that great. and you have to be careful as its easy to crack the clear parts.

Third, the decals are almost unusable right out of the box.  They are thick and their color isn't all that great.  The marking are limited with only a couple of markings have an option.  There is no explanation what the marking's are or even if they are based in reality.

Fourth, the directions are basic, and the painting guide leaves a lot to be desired. 

All in All, with the right mindset this can be a fun build.
